Frequently asked questions
What do Attack mode and Defense mode mean?
Attack mode asks how well each of the 18 types would perform when used by the selected Pokemon against every possible defender. Defense mode asks how incoming attacks of each type perform against the selected Pokemon. Use Attack mode to choose a move; use Defense mode to find team gaps. The center switch is keyboard accessible and keeps the active side visible at a glance.
How should I read 4x, 2x, 1x, 0.5x, 0.25x, and 0x?
These are damage multipliers. Four times is doubly super-effective, two times is super-effective, one is neutral, one-half and one-quarter are resisted, and zero is immunity. Dual types multiply together, so two weaknesses can become 4x.
How is Pokemon GO mode different?
GO uses its own scale: super-effective hits are 1.6x, resisted hits are 0.625x, and immunities are represented as 0.390625x in this reference. Ability and Terastallize modifiers are hidden because those mechanics are not used in the same way in GO battles.
How do abilities modify effectiveness?
Abilities are applied after the type chart. Levitate makes Ground attacks ineffective, Thick Fat halves Fire and Ice, Tinted Lens strengthens resisted attacks, and Filter, Solid Rock, and Prism Armor reduce super-effective damage. Multiscale and Shadow Shield halve incoming damage at full HP, while Water Bubble halves Fire damage and Wonder Guard blocks non-super-effective hits. The list includes only effectiveness modifiers available to the selected Pokemon.
What changes when a Pokemon Terastallizes?
In Defense mode, enabling Terastallize replaces the selected defensive typing with the chosen Tera type. This lets you inspect the temporary defensive profile rather than the species' original combination.
How does Weather Boost work?
When GO mode and weather are enabled, attacks matching the chosen weather receive a 1.2- boost. Clear boosts Fire, Grass, and Ground; Rainy boosts Water, Electric, and Bug; Partly Cloudy boosts Normal and Rock; Cloudy boosts Fairy, Fighting, and Poison; Windy boosts Dragon, Flying, and Psychic; Snow boosts Ice and Steel; Fog boosts Dark and Ghost.
How do the tools work?
Use the forgiving Pokemon search to find a species or form; punctuation and words such as Mega are normalized, and the dossier shows types, representative same-type moves, STAB status, and related forms. The team desk combines up to six type pairs and counts shared weaknesses and resistances. The move value tool applies the matchup multiplier and the standard 1.5x mainline STAB bonus, while GO mode omits that bonus. Share links preserve the controls, mode, and toggles. Presets stay in local storage, best counters are sorted by multiplier, and Print summary creates a clean paper view.
Where does the effectiveness data come from?
The chart is the standard mainline Pokemon type-effectiveness chart through Generation IX, encoded directly in this file for offline use. The embedded species list includes species, regional variants, Mega forms, and other forms; type calculations do not depend on an API.
